Behind Every Summer Wind Mahjong™Product is a Story

Just as in mahjong, life is a series of pivots. I stepped away from my legal career for over twenty years to raise my three children and care for my aging parents. Then came my return to law and the subsequent launch with my son of RaynDrops Media, Inc. of which I am CEO and General Counsel. My most recent pivot occurred when my youngest child left for college and a friend introduced me to American mahjong. I was instantly hooked - by its challenges, beauty, and history. I have to confess – my mother had tried to get me interested in mahjong for years, but I thought it was not for me. How wrong I was! Playing with my mother’s set (and discovering it had been my grandmother’s), I feel a deep connection with past generations of my family.

I now play and teach often, with both traditional and stylized sets, with friends and family. I frequently hear about players’ challenges figuring out tiles in some of the stylized sets. While I greatly appreciate the artistry of these sets, I thought there was also a need for unique sets which pay homage to the traditions of mahjong, retaining Chinese characters and time-honored familiar tile layouts. Not being able to find exactly what I was looking for, Summer Wind Mahjong™ was born!

At Summer Wind, we create thoughtfully designed American mahjong tile sets rooted in tradition. I personally design each set that we sell. We also offer a selection of mahjong-themed coasters which launch fun and informative short videos discussing features of the game (and these can even be customized). The butterfly imagery in our logo is a heartfelt tribute to the memory of my mother. And, as giving back to our community is very important to us, a portion of the proceeds of the sale of each tile set will be donated to charity.
